And so what they do is they pack people in as tightly as they can, and they get more money off them for putting bags on, more money off them for eating or drinking anything, potentially more money if they want to sit near a window or together with the rest of their family.
All this, A, makes money off everyone who flies with them.
It's also driven to turn the aircraft.

Planes only make money for airlines if they're in the sky.
Someone like Ryanair has absolutely perfected this, where a plane will land, discharge all of its passengers, reload a new set, and be off sometimes in as little as half an hour.
That means it can maximize the amount of journeys a plane can do in a day.
that means it can make more money off those planes and off that crew.
Whereas someone who runs longer haul or potentially takes longer cleaning up all the food everyone's eaten can't turn their plane as quickly and therefore make less money.
There's a big difference between airlines who have hedged, that means bought their jet fuel in advance, and those who haven't.
Broadly, most of those in Europe have bought in advance and so are OK for the next few months.
They will start taking out future oil contracts at potentially higher prices.
Many of those in the US are not hedged.
They have to buy on the open market.
And so they are in a much more difficult position than those people who've bought in advance.
This is all going to push low cost carriers during this period, because even if you are incredibly effective, incredibly efficient, you turn your planes quickly, you're operating on way for thin margins.
And jet fuel prices have gone up.
Ticket prices potentially will have to go up on the back of that.
We're also in a high inflation environment, and people are feeling the squeeze on everything from their food bills to filling up their cars.
