I think generally, most of the people who are listening to this podcast are probably thinking when we talk about pay by bank, we're really talking about the
use of instant payment rails for it.
But obviously it's persisting within the ACH space, within the debit card space.
There's lots of different ways in which it's coming about.
Generally, I think it's being driven by the fact that most brands have consumer facing apps.
And now that people are interfacing with consumer-facing apps for those brands, there's the opportunity to provide payment services, what we would call embedded payments within those applications.
Merchants still aren't happy about interchange rates.
And I think where they can cut a few basis points off, they're willing to take some risk
on that transaction to be able to do it.
And, you know, you talked about Ross being on the show, you know, folks like Trustly have figured out some of those risk-based metrics and they're providing services that allow for potentially a slightly lower cost of acquisition with a little bit of risk involved in the transaction to be able to interface with that customer.
If it hadn't been for the use of these consumer facing apps, I don't know that pay by bank would take off as, as quickly, but you know,
And consumer and consumerism, I think, is actually ultimately driving the pay-by-bank space.
There's a lot of space that we can innovate in there, though, I think.
And, you know, we've been talking about the tangent of getting rid of checks.
The great news is if you've got consumer-facing applications and you've got people that are involved in payments processes in those apps...
A lot of those brands have the opportunity to now figure out how to deliver money back to customers electronically through those means.
So potentially it creates a better ecosystem for all involved there.
Yeah.
And, you know, you think about the risk that's involved, you know, in general, when you look at some of the pay-by-bank schemes that are existing within the U.S.
and utilizing things like ACH debits or debit card transactions, there are folks in that process that are eating a lot of the risk out.
