People have to be interested in themselves to some extent.

Well, The War We Never Fought is the one about drugs.
I meant the one about World War I. The phony victory.
Which people keep telling me is called The Phony War, which absolutely is not.
That's a different subject.

It does, if you think about it, explain what's going on.

Everybody's heard of the phony war.
We sat around doing nothing for the first, what was it, nine months of war, and then suddenly we were engulfed in blitzkrieg, and the next thing you know, we're the victors at Potsdam.
And I thought, how do you get...
from the phony war, a defeated country, Dunkirk, bankruptcy.
How do you get from there to being one of the victor countries?
And you don't, the truth is.
And we in France began the Second World War by declaring war on Hitler.
You could say he began it by invading Poland.
It was a positive decision on our side to make that the issue.
But we weren't prepared for the war that we declared, particularly France.
We had all relied.
