For those who do not know, X9, I think it's called the X9 Accredited Standards Committee is
But it's a standards committee that builds standards around financial services.
And so when people say, oh, X9, never heard of it, not an important thing, go research it because it is an important thing.
Like if there were an X9 standard, people are very familiar in the card world of the EMV standard.
So X9 is kind of a domestic version of EMV.
So it is an important thing that it illustrates a couple of things.
One is it's an important enough topic that it rose to the level of X9 being willing to have a committee on it.
And just recently, the committee has gotten far enough in the standard that a few companies have been able to get together and actually illustrate a live demonstration of how it would work using instant payments here in the United States.
And so there's that question of so what?
Why is this important?
One of the questions that we get asked all the time is, oh, instant payments, how do I use them?
Well, one of the things that needs to happen is a buyer and a seller, a sender of money and a receiver of money need to have a way to easily exchange the information that's necessary to make that payment.
And they want to be able to do that safely.
So I don't want to sit here on a podcast and read out my routing number and account number so that you can send me money.
So we have to have a way that we can exchange that information.
And so part of this QR code standard embedded in that effort is not only taking QR codes and saying, what does the payload of the QR code need to be?
But extending that to what does the ecosystem need to be to build the trust that makes a QR code being scanned for a payment, not something that a bad guy can easily purloin.
And so, yeah, very valid effort, very proud of the work.
This is one of those efforts that I believe started out in the mash-tum of the Faster Payments Council and ended up turning into something.
As you noted, there are not one but several participants of the Faster Payments Council on that committee.
