You know, the irony in some sense is it hasn't been evidently very massively disruptive so far, which is one of the reasons why he's saying, Okay, I could keep going with it.
But it it will over time.
And of course one of the ironies of protectionism
you know, which is there's a very famous Australian economist called Max Corden, who developed all these theories, uh and his basic idea was
You have to distinguish between
nominal protection and effective protection.
So if you put up the if you put tariffs on the stuff that your industry is importing,
the effective protection that industry gets goes down rather than up because it's having to pay higher costs, you know, your your point.
So a l the car industry in the United States is not necessarily seeing an improvement in its protection because it's having to pay a lot more for some of its key inputs.
And and so the right way to do it, if you're going to be
you are going to be protectionist is probably not put tariffs on your input uh stuff and make sure it's just purely on the output side of things.
