Well, you have one modern case study of a country going the other way.
Um, and it it's our own or my own uh birth country, uh the UK, which decided to greater wisdom or whatever, to to to do a Brexit uh autarky program in you know twenty sixteen, kicking in in twenty nineteen.
I mean it's fair to say the UK's relative performance efficacy has been a bit of a bit of a disaster.
And it's not just been a slow growth dislocation story.
Um which by the way, instead of being a sudden
development was more of a sort of corrosive secular trend.
It's not just been that.
It's been uh, you know, I mentioned earlier about the elasticity of supply.
Uh, you know, what happens is you basically give yourself much more inelastic supply curves.
So when you get shocks, you end up with much more inflation.
And that's something that the UK has suffered from uh, you know, I think as a legacy of Brexit.
Now I'm not trying to change the subject.
I'm just giving you that as an
Well, I I mean that's obviously a a um an interesting discussion as to how these things cascade through the global economy.
And I mean one of the things I've noticed and it's you know it's pretty obvious but worth emphasizing is that even though the most significant hit on the trade side has been on China, both on the tariffs and the subsequent impact on US import.
imports, even though that's been the case, China's exports have I won't say boomed, but they've done okay.
The reason is that China's exports to everyone else have picked up at the same time that they exports to the United States have fallen quite sharply uh over the last not not even just the last sort of th two or three months, but o really over a sort of six to seven month period, they're down very sharply.
Well that's uh that's an that that's more of a specific example with the US where uh you know the
I I I mean the policy that was adopted in the first half of April was so draconian that uh it blew up in the US's own face.
