Moving to Glasgow from Manila, as you do, in 2004 was transformative.
And it wasn't the most informed decision back then.
I think my dad came back from, I think, a trip to London.
Maybe he went to Edinburgh for a day.
He didn't even go to Glasgow.
But he came back with, like, one of those tourist Charles Rennie Macintosh, like...
And I think at the time I was already in art school in Manila, not particularly happy.
And my aunt told me that if you want to do this properly, you need to get the F out of Manila.
I don't think you can swear in this podcast.
You can swear as much as you like.
Get the fuck out of Manila was what she told me.
And so I was kind of thinking about where I wanted to go.
And I didn't want to go to the US because that seemed like such an obvious route.
And so I found this like little, I think it was even like an A5 Charles Rainey Macintosh book.
And I flipped it open to the Glasgow School of Art building.
And it became immediately clear that that's where I wanted to go from that singular image.
And then when I got to Glasgow, Glasgow was not like that at all.
Yeah, I had three years in that building.
Oh, did you?
And so when it burnt down the first time, it felt like a family bereavement.
