But, you know, like that changed my life.
I met Frances in Glasgow.
She was at the jewellery course across the road from the Macintosh building.
And also there was something about Glasgow in the early 2000s.
It was really like, it was like the place to be.
Incredible energy.
Like pre-crash when like public funding was not a myth.
Yeah.
I think had I moved to London right away or to a bigger city, I wouldn't have felt as embedded in the fabric of an art scene.
I cannot paint to save my life.
But I think the amazing thing about Glasgow is actually those categories didn't really matter because it was a real community.
I think sometimes Sam Ainslie, who ran the MFA program for a very long time, even gets confused thinking I was one of her MFA students because we were all just living in each other's pockets.
And the tutors, like the other artists, I worked for Jim Lambie for a little bit.
It felt like a genuine community.
And I stayed on.
I stayed on for two more years after I graduated.
And I think that made me feel even more, you know, part of...
but it was such an amazing environment because that was when like things were literally happening in bedrooms.
I remember seeing my first Carla black show was in someone's living room on like Socky Hall street.
It's funny.
