I remember seeing a drawing, the one with the kind of incredibly intertwined, I think it was a self-portrait of Iginchile with these hands that are like, they're so bony and so long.
And I remember falling in love with those hands.
And I think at that time I was already really into like drawing.
I was collecting a lot of like X-Men comics.
And in some ways my work never really departed from drawing.
I mean, drawing is primarily what happens in the studio, I think.
And there's a devotional aspect to how I draw because, you know, you're tracing an object and then like as you're hatching every line or it's almost like you're over elaborating the surface.
And it's really it's how I think and it's how I think through these kind of large histories that are often so unwieldy.
But I think the moment I'm able to kind of translate that onto a surface, it's not easier to navigate.
But the possibility of navigating it becomes clearer.
Because the process of drawing is like, first I kind of print this image or object I want to draw to the scale I want it drawn.
It's quite literal, really.
And then I transfer it onto the surface with carbon paper.
And then you kind of go through this process of tracing everything with a pen that's like 0.3 of a millimetre.
So that large drawing, I think all in all, it took like five months.
And like month three, you really start questioning your life choices.
What am I doing?
But then you see it, you know, you see it and you see people looking at it and then it's worth it.
Yeah, it's an activity that actually demands retreat.
It's an activity that demands a kind of intimacy.
