And I think one of the things that we have to stop doing in science is not use science to disprove belief and not use belief to disprove science.
They are infinitely close and they touch philosophically.
So can we make life in the lab?
Probably.
Will we do it one day?
I don't know, because we have to do the experiments.
But we are making a great deal of progress, much more than James depicts, because it doesn't fit his narrative.
So as a scientist, I started out saying, I don't know what life is, a problem.
And I looked at the NASA definition.
And I realized when I built a new theory, assembly theory, that we could actually measure what life is in the lab.
And that's what we've been doing for the last 10 years.
But I didn't want to come on your show and just preach about me.
I want to have a very succinct conversation.
But yes, right now, as of today, I can measure what life is in the lab.
And I can also build detectors to detect alien life off Earth.
using a special features we found.
And all those nut things that James said about replication and all this stuff, we can actually collapse together a measurement.
Before the concept of temperature, in Italy, you had to put glass blow tubes to make a thermometer.
And until you can make a thermometer, you could not put alcohol in and actually measure something.
And what we were able to do using laboratory techniques is come up with the equivalent of measuring temperature, but rather we're measuring aliveness.
