In Virginia, the Charter of Religious Freedom initially contemplated only providing protection for Christians.
And by a popular vote and the legislature, they said, no, we also accept Mohammedans, which is what they called Muslims back then, and Jews and people of no faith.
This is explicitly outlined that that debate actually already happened by the folks who founded the country.
And they affirmatively decided that, no, we're not going to be a Christian nation.
We're going to allow people to have belief or not belief at their own leisure.
And so this whole idea, well, that's offensive now.
Well, what you're telling me is that you haven't actually read history, that you're choosing to be completely ignorant about this.

this kind of post-fact world that we live in is deeply problematic because it doesn't allow us to function on the same set of facts.
And I've often found that when we're having these discussions with folks who are self-identified magas, they're not working on the same set of facts.
I can't have a conversation with you if you think that we were a religious theocracy at our founding and that me being here as a Muslim is somehow a violation of that or that Jolly being here as an atheist is somehow a violation of that.
