I was in D.C.
when this happened.
He said, we are not going home.
You want to obstruct?
You want to vote?
No, fine.
You can do that.
But you're going to do it 24-7 in the chamber, nights and weekends, and we're not leaving until it's done.
And do you remember when that statutory part of Obamacare passed?
It passed on Christmas Eve.
Because he leveraged every single opportunity he had to say, fine, you can oppose me, but you are going to physically pay for your opposition.
This has been how the Senate has operated for 200 years, except now under Johnson when it cannot do anything.
It's bigger than John Thune, unfortunately.
And it is that the conference now has one loyalty and it's to their own comfort.
Right.
What John Thune doesn't want to do is to announce to his conference, by the way, guys, we are going to start doing midnight quorum calls.
We're going to start working Fridays even.
or Mondays during the day, things that they never do.
If John Thune announces that, his conference is going to wind, they are going to grumble, a lot of them will just go home anyway, and it will be John Thune becomes the enemy of his conference.
They have one loyalty and it's to their own comfort, and that is really hamstringing the Senate because the Senate, again, for 200 years has operated in this deliberate environment which takes work.
