She was in a completely different place, but of course I was going to query her again and

She answered me really quickly and said, I remember you, send me the book.

But I didn't hear back from her right away.

Agents have, as you know well, a million things to read.

So when I got an offer of representation from a different agent, I was in the lucky position of being able to go back around to everyone I had queried and ended up with a few offers.

But I ultimately went with Alyssa, not just because of the chemistry of the conversations we had in that second round and

because I felt like she got what I was trying to do.

We got along.

But it was really because of that first letter so many years before.

It just felt like kismet and also, you know, that the seeds of something had been planted.

And then we went out on submission shortly.

It didn't feel short to me, but now that I understand publishing timelines, I'm realizing it all happened really quickly.
