I mean, this is why whenever we talk about Lady Tremaine's path to publication, you have to talk about the, you know, 15 years that preceded it.

Because otherwise it just – it's too good to be true.

So we went out on submission and it was slow, you know, the first couple of weeks.

And then I got my first slew of rejections, which was so hard to get that roundup email.

I think that Lady Tremaine is a really difficult book to categorize.

I mean, even now, some people are shelving it in fantasy and some people are putting historical fiction and some people are putting in contemporary and

The truth is it's none of those things.

And because it's set in a historical setting, but it's not historically accurate.

There's no actual fantasy in it, although it is a fairy tale retelling.

And publishing, I'm learning, really likes to fit square pegs into square holes.

They like to repeat.

Similar to Hollywood, they like formulas for what's going to work.

And I think it can be

a little – this is just my observation.

It might not be accurate, but maybe a little confusing to have something new that you don't quite know what to do with.

So that's my take now.

But it was very hard to metabolize at the moment.
