From there, officers started their investigation into what really happened on the morning of September 25th, 2023.
They knew from the jump that something weird was going on.
Both women were acting very strange and, of course, two children lost their lives and two others were severely injured.
Investigators knew that they needed to get to the bottom of this to find justice for this family.
Now, like I said, when the officers stepped away from his initial questioning with Sarah in his patrol car, Samantha came up and briefly spoke with her.
Their conversation was captured on the recording device, and they could be heard saying, quote, After hearing this, they went ahead and reviewed body cam footage from when officers first arrived on scene.
It was actually shown that at first, Sarah was captured wearing a black coat with black leggings, while Samantha was wearing a red and black Hy-Vee employee shirt.
But shortly after their arrival, Samantha goes inside the black SUV momentarily before coming back out, now wearing a black tank top.
Like I said, the first witness on scene reported that the driver who struck the buggy and killed those two children, the one driving the silver SUV, was wearing the Hy-Vee employee shirt.
It was seen clear as day on that body cam footage that Samantha
not Sarah, was wearing that very shirt when officers first arrived, but quickly changed it.
Based on that, it appears that maybe Samantha changed out of the shirt to confuse officers and make it look like Sarah is actually the one who caused the accident, when in reality, maybe Samantha's actually the one that was driving.
After all, they are twins, so how would they ever know the difference?
Plus, they were just heard talking on that recording device saying, how will they ever know the difference between the two of us?
The only questions now are, why would Sarah take the fall and how are they going to prove it?
Pretty quickly into their investigation though, the pieces started to come together and they started to get a pretty good picture of what was going on here.
They found out that both Sarah and Samantha actually worked for the same Hy-Vee grocery store in Rochester, Minnesota.
So officers went to that store to question the district store manager and the human resources manager.
According to the district manager, Samantha clocked out of work at 7.47 a.m.
on the morning of September 25th.
