And the river, which had been industrialized in the city, was never really part of the city.

And I threw the river walk, which was written up as one of the great public investments,

created a space that had never existed.

And so the mayor has a capacity.

And so when I walk in,

About a decade earlier, Secretary William Bennett of Education had called it the single worst public school system in America.

When I walk out, Sean Reardon at Stanford, the leading demographer on education, called it the single best of the top 100 public school systems in America.

Now, it took everything in my soul.
