Well, you see, Darwin had terrible trouble there because the conservatives of the time were all against Darwin and the notion that we could be descended from mere animals.
They didn't like this at all.
And the great defender of that was Huxley.
Huxley became known because he was so good for attacking bishops and things that were criticizing the theory.
He became known as Darwin's bulldog.
And of course, when this line came up, he named it the Wallace line.
Wallace didn't do it.
Wallace was a humble character.
But he was a contemporary of Darwin, wasn't he?
Yes, I think he would.
Darwin, in theory, should have published Wallace's paper.
Wallace had discovered this theory of natural selection.
Now, Darwin was stuck.
Suddenly, he had the theory worked out himself, but he hadn't published.
And here was, and he was the one who had to decide whether to publish or not.
