In that time period, union roles and aviation roles allowed them to do that.
So they were constantly moving in and out of the cockpit.
Earlier, um, cockpits used to be wide open and in fact children rounded up once the plane had had leveled off and brought into the cockpit to meet the pilot and say hi and and look out the pilot's window, right?
And so it was a uh that now I'm describing the seventies and eighties earlier time.
Uh and some airlines give out little children's wings where after they visited the cockpit they would pin it on their shirt and you know, it was
It was marketing, but it was, you know, a great life experience for certain kids at a certain time period.
So it was still fairly casual like that.
Um and the captain would come out of the cockpit from time to time uh in this in the nineties and sometimes talk to the passengers in first class or uh get something out of his bag or what have you.
So it wasn't a hardened.
um place.
And so it was even though there had been hijacking since the late nineteen sixties in the United States and in the Middle East and in Europe.
They really hadn't
change the system from this much more casual, trusting uh system that emerged in the fifties and sixties.
Oh, so this is very tricky, right?
So if you look at the transcripts of the phone calls from the passengers, they described a range of weapons.
Um they're very unclear.
Uh we don't know how long the blades were.
Um a chemical weapon is described by one of them.
