You know, you used the word complicated when you were talking about

I think that's right.

You know, I think it is very complicated and nuanced and different for everyone.

And I'm a big Paul Celan fan.

And, you know, he writes, the poetry is anti-biographical.

the poet conjures or finds or creates new homelands for themselves in the poems that they write.

And I wonder if there's been a kind of

if I've been trying to do something about like kind of to create different places for myself to, for the speaker, for myself to abide and to exist and to slip into, and maybe the landscape in Emerald is, is one of those homelands for myself.

You know, people often use the phrase like, um,

poems can bear witness.

I think a poem can bear witness but I'm also really interested in how the poem might bear the witness towards a greater understanding of themselves.

And if, you know, if there is recovery, it begins with self-knowledge or understanding.

But it's complex, like you say, and that's why I think the symbol of the crystals is so useful, because crystals are broken and reformed continually on the Earth's crust, and

I think that trauma reshapes the brain.

And so any kind of moving forward has to kind of think about how the brain has kind of been reshaped or remolded by the trauma.

So there has to be a kind of honesty and a dialogue with the complexity before there's a move towards recovery, you know.

I guess it's so idiomatic, right?

I guess a poem is so many different things to so many people and it has different purposes and it has different functions.
