I mean, I guess all I can say is that I'm very grateful to have found poetry because it's kind of given me access to paying attention to the world in a different way

Yeah, it's great to talk about that epigraph.

I'm so grateful to Emily Dickinson.

I'm such a huge fan of her poetry and poetics.

And it's so interesting that you alighted on that word, I told my song to sing.

Yeah, there's something so interesting and powerful about that, that it might be possible to tell the self, do something to allow the self to kind of become empowered, to believe in the self, to push the self.

I love that.

I mean, that quote just means so much to me.

And I think of poetry and song, you know, I think of them both as language under pressure.

When you're singing, I used to be a singer, you know, many years ago.

When you're singing, you're drawing the air through your body and putting it under physiological pressure, you know, from the diaphragm or through the mouth, you're kind of shaping it.

And so there's the pressure that comes with the song.

But when you're writing poetry, you're putting the line under different types of pressure as well.

You're trying to arrange the music in it.

You know, you're thinking about assonance, alliteration, sonics, you know, concision, rapidity.

And I think

Pressure is key.

Yeah, I think that quote definitely speaks to it.

The song is only possible because something has been endured.
