There is a kind of hopeful reaching out into the painting.
The speaker is yearning to be let in, to be protected.
I really love those ideas.
I mean, I think for me, like, poetry is a way of paying attention to the world in a kind of slightly different way, you know, and looking at the things that, or trying to see things that, you know, otherwise might be disregarded or walked past, you know, and trying to somehow intuit the wisdom that these objects or these things might have for the self or for the speaker of the poem.
Yeah, I mean, I think there's something about... Certainly in the Still Life poems, I'm trying to kind of like deeply focus on the symbols.
And I think they warrant that because they're such multi-layered symbols anyway, like the rose...
can mean so many different things.
In a painting, you know, it can mean sensuality.
It can mean religious purity.
It can also mean, you know, depending on how it's portrayed, it can mean like encroaching death, you know.
And I think because it can also mean secrecy as well.
And to look at a still life painting is in a way to kind of give your attention to those dense multi-led symbols.
I think it feels possible to press even further and to kind of unearth
what the symbolism might be for you.
And I'm certainly doing that in this rose poem.
You know, I'm kind of looking at the rose and, you know, the speaker is asking to be protected, almost saved by the rose, you know.
So I think definitely poetry means paying attention in a different way to the world and seeing what wisdom you're giving back in return for that attention.

The speaker has a kind of curiosity as well, and the speaker is looking for the future in these two phones as well.
They're analysing a kind of stuckness or a kind of frozenness, and they're hoping for movement, and they're hoping for self-knowledge, and whatever the future might look like.
