Yeah, I think that's a really good catch.
Yeah, I've definitely been saying the speaker.
And I think, yeah, I think it's really sort of fundamental for me to kind of like create a bit of space.
And I think, you know, poets will often say different things about who they feel the speaker of their poems is.
And all I can say really is that, you know, the speaker...
In these poems, you know, we share the same biography, but the speaker is somehow through language able to sing about or express things that I might not, you know.
And so I think of maybe sometimes I think of the speaker as a kind of heightened voice.
more extreme version of myself potentially you know like um maybe like an opera singer you know like um you know sometimes when you go to the opera and um you know someone's having a really extreme time they're singing about love and death and they're thinking about really big things and they're not afraid to do that um and i guess i sort of think of the speaker of these poems as some
being heightened and being unafraid to say things and being unafraid to sing things.
And I do think it's really important just to kind of, yeah, have that kind of distance that you might need.
And I think it's really important, you know, to realise that the I, when we use the first person, that's not necessarily the self, you know, something different, it's a different construction.
Oh, that's such a good question.
I guess the first word that comes to mind is kind of a tenderness, like I feel kind of tenderly towards the speaker, like a kind of
I don't know.
I haven't, I suppose I haven't thought about that.
Like, I do feel a kind of tenderness towards them and I feel a gratitude towards them.
They're able to sing about things that I might not be able to say.
And through their explorations into language and their kind of attention on things,
they've brought me to a sort of place of greater understanding about the hurt that I gesture towards in the poems.
So, yeah, I suppose I think I'm gratitude as well.
