And much as we expected,
What we saw in the final data was that patients with lower ejection fractions had a more than doubling of the effect on meaningfully hard clinical endpoints, and those with higher ejection fractions diluted the overall treatment effect as observed.
We had, in that 8,000-patient study, 4,000 patients either on placebo or active.
That informs now the confirmatory study, which is going to enroll approximately 1,800 patients to verify what we saw in galactin.
that patients who have lower ejection fraction, recent hospitalizations, higher BNPs, these measures of advanced heart failure should hopefully enable us with this smaller, more focused confirmatory trial
to recapitulate what we saw in Galactic, and as would be supportive, we believe, of, if positive, an approval for omicamptive in a population where existing treatments for heart failure are not useful.
We're not seeing those drugs, beta blockers, SQLT2 inhibitors used in these patients that are repeat frequent flyers in U.S.
hospitals because of advanced heart failure with higher morbidities, lower ejection fraction.
So the cardiology community gets it and is very excited about Comet HF, as is enrolling approximately 1,800 patients.
It's event-driven, so we don't know exactly how many patients will ultimately be needed, but we do believe
that it's enrolling well, and we should see results of that study in the next couple of years, as could be supportive of an approval for omicamptomacarbal in advanced severe heart failure.
And there again,
many of the same cardiologists, similar strategy, concentrated customer segment, the second leg on our stool, if you will, following my Corso, as we'd hopefully establish for us a commercial presence in OHCM and potentially NHCM, and then where Omicamptive could carry the flag into heart failure with reduced ejection fraction.
And then to your question, we have another investigational medicine, eulacampin, in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
That's currently the subject of a phase two study called AMBER-HEF-PEF.
That study is enrolling.
We may be in a position to report data from that trial here soon, that being the third leg of the three-legged stool for our emerging specialty cardiology franchise.
So you begin to understand how the science, clinical research, and commercial strategies produce, we believe, a symbiotic and cohesive connection to be supportive of a growth and enduring business to benefit not just patients, but also shareholders.
So these are patients who, despite standard of care, still have reduced cardiac pumping function.
The medicines, to our earlier conversation, the medicines that they're often getting are not acting directly on cardiac mechanics or muscle performance, but are addressing downstream sequelae of their heart failure.
