And then problem solving is um, you know, is itself kind of a simple thing in a way.
Uh, because um, you know, you
the you know, the person wearing the shoes knows where the pinch is and knows when the pinch has been alleviated and all the rest.
It turns out though, and one of the things that gets sort of um uh one of the things that comes to the foreground in your book is that, you know,
Um, we're talking about problems that are at a level of complexity where um, you know, it's it's not really easily um analogous to the to the guy with the shoes that don't fit quite right because
you know, there's disagreement and different views about, you know, what the problem is, what would constitute a good solution.
So that things are much more complex.
Um uh uh things are much more complex than I think even um sort of earlier versions of your function uh of of the kind of functionalist view that you endorse have have have allowed.
Does that sound right?
Well, fantastic.
So um the remainder of part one, after you've sort of established this functionalist view about what, you know, what's the object of our scrutiny, um, is devoted to sort of outlining a range, uh several, uh uh critiques um of electoral democracy, and they're all critiques of electoral democracy um as um as a manifestation.
Of democracy.
These are not sort of what we might think of as external critiques of electoral democracy.
They're internal.
The thought is that this familiar way of practicing democracy isn't really a reliable way of manifesting the democratic ideals that that we're supposed to be committed to.
Can you sort of encapsulate some of the highlights of that?
It's a r it's a range of of kinds of critique that are internal to uh democratic uh values of uh familiar forms of electoral democracy.
