But I take it that
Part of what underlies your book is the idea of moral and social progress that involves much more
um substantial, uh a much more substantial conception of the the kind of change that democracy fosters.
Would that be right?
Yeah, that's
Right.
So good.
And so b what the early deliberativists who talked about preference change in the course of properly democratic communication
didn't fully appreciate the way in which
certain preference changes are you know carry with them a sort of a change in the uh a more fundamental change in the person doing the preferring.
Is that right?
Right.
Yeah.
Good.
So l let me sort of let's connect this and so sort of high on the agenda of the argument of the book.
is to sort of address what might what many I think intuitively will see as sort of like the like the first like one of the top questions that that one has to argue when one's making a case for democracy on the basis of uh its ability to catalyze um uh progress.
Um so what do we mean by progress is is is the question.
And here you situate yourself um relative to
two going conceptions.
One is um uh connected to the ideas we were just discussing the deliberative democratic uh conception and the other is this power sharing uh idea um in sort of picking up on what we were just discussing can you situate your view of progress within these these sort of two alternatives the deliberative one that we've been speaking about uh uh uh briefly uh just a moment ago.
