The economics of the oil extraction there doesn't add up.
That's why that oil field has never been tapped.
But ultimately, look what other European countries are doing.
Denmark now gets 80% of its energy from offshore wind.
Spain in 2022 used to get most of its electricity generated from gas.
After the Ukraine war, when they had the huge energy price spike and electricity price spike that we had here too, they made a policy decision, go with solar energy.
And they have massively changed the makeup of their electricity generation.
And in Spain now have one of the lowest wholesale electricity prices in the European Union.
So Michael spoke about dreaming earlier on.
This isn't dreaming.
This is reality.
This is policies that are being advanced by governments around Europe.
And our government needs to double down on plans that are in place and actually implement them.
There are blockages there and they need to be serious about addressing those blockages.
so Irish people can enjoy lower energy, lower fuel prices.
Just important to say, that wasn't from the carbon tax.
