I mean, there was a lot of rejuvenating that could have been done that kind of had me in a place of disappointment when I initially sat down with the lead investigators.
So when you put a task force together in the NYPD, it's pretty much rudimentary.
We're going to work together.
We're going to work the ATF, FBI, any other law enforcement agency out there.
It's not something that's uncommon.
In Suffolk County, there is a process of putting a task force together where there's a stipend assigned to the investigators assigned to this task force.
And there's
A selected investigators that now would be chosen to go work in this task force.
And it wasn't something where, you know, as a police commissioner, I didn't have.
Well, I changed that mentality.
But initially I got a lot of pushback about, well, who am I to start a task force?
And who selected the investigators?
And there was some union gripes regarding like, you know, you're this new commissioner coming out here.
Who are you to try to create a task force without running it by the unions?
And the unions out in Suffolk County are very, very strong.
They have a lot of say so in work.
what needs to be done going forward when it comes to certain police and policy procedures, or even creating a task force, versus the NYPD, where if we're going to create a task force for a certain incident, the commissioner says something, it's gospel, it goes forward, and that's it.
And that's some of the politics that I had to unfortunately deal with.
I will also say that the county executive, Steve Malone, was very passionate about making sure
this case got rejuvenated.
