There are various arguments for this.
We don't need to go into them, but that's like a common position.
And so I think if you actually take that seriously, it does mean that you probably, you do have this like trade-off that you have to, about, you know, what information do you share externally?
That will increase the chance that it leaks.
versus what information you'd really try to lock down.
And I think it would be hard to like make a commitment about that.
I do still feel like though, for some of them, I do feel more sympathetic to like, yeah, come on, this seems like obviously a good commitment.
I would still say though that like the tying to the mask just doesn't actually work.
And so I would rather do it by like, you know,
check what the companies are actually doing in practice, and then judge them based on whether they are doing the things that we think are good, rather than whether they have made a commitment to continue doing it in the future.

It doesn't necessarily have to, like, yes to wise and well-motivated, but they don't have to be inside companies.
They can be like external third-party auditors.
I think that that would work.
That just means you have to have like humans who know a lot of stuff, who are looking into the details a bunch and doing that.
Rules that you write down in advance are like one of the stupidest, like, sorry, I mean stupid in the sense of like the rule itself is
clearly can't have very much intelligence in it, otherwise it would not be a rule.
It's like, you write down in advance based on what you think before seeing the evidence, a policy that can be written down in English rather than allowing for flexible adjustment over time.
It's just like, it's so weak.
Intelligence and optimization pressure applied against a rule will always get around the rule.
