You know, I had no speech prepared or anything.
And Nesting is my first novel.
And there just were such big names on that list.
And so many, I mean, really any of those books could have taken home the award.
Such amazing quality of writing.
And I just feel deeply honoured, really, to have been chosen.
It's hard, yeah.
Nesting, I mean, at the start of the book, Keira, the protagonist, she sort of thinks she seems to have the perfect life from the outside.
She's living in the leafy suburbs of Dublin.
She has her husband Ryan who's hardworking and seems like a loving husband but behind closed doors she's completely controlled by him and she gets to the point where she decides she brings her two small children and she drives away and she just knows that she wants to build a better life.
And it's her journey through homelessness, through emergency accommodation.
It's about the friends she meets on the way.
And even though nesting, as you say, a lot of people hear about it and think, oh, that sounds really dark.
But really, to me, nesting is about hope.
It's about love, what love really means, right?
And what home really means.
And that was really at the heart of it.
And I've just been absolutely blown away by the response from readers.
That's what I wanted to do.
I wanted to get away from the stereotypes.
