It was probably the second week of July or first week of July or last week of June, somewhere in the dead of summer.
And Jackson State released all of its players that released a list of all of its players that had gotten drafted.
during the off season that would start fall camp.
Cause back then that just, you just didn't know until the school released them and they enrolled in classes.
You really didn't know they're the internet and the recruiting sites.
And this was, it was Oh nine ish.
So, I mean, we, we, it was there, but for a lower level, I Jackson state, there weren't a lot of coverage going on.
And a lot of times Jackson state and the swag schools got, um,
A lot of players from that ended up getting kicked out or dropped out, failed out of the other programs like in the SEC or even in like Conference USA or whatever.
So you didn't know until real late.
And I got the list.
And it was like 25 players.
And I Googled every one of them.
And at one point, I Googled one.
I'll never forget, I was sitting in the Claire and Litter newsroom and I typed his name, Casey Theriault, in her.
And that first headline was about him being booked in jail and being convicted eventually of manslaughter.
So...
We did stop the presses, and we had to rush in a story that Jackson State had picked up a quarterback who had played at Grand Valley State and had been in jail for, I can't remember how long he was in jail.
It was like a year and a half he was in jail for manslaughter.
Him and his friends basically beat up a guy to the point where he died.
