the reporting is in our jobs that the writing is really second um and it can the writing can be molded and of course you want to be a great writer everybody does but you should start as well journalism classes all the time too like you should focus on the reporting um more than anything
she was the editor of the campus newspaper and she hired me as sports editor my last year in college at Mississippi state.
And, uh, so we started dating then and our, our fall, our last fall, um, so fall of 2005.
And, um,
she got she graduated in may i went an extra like half i wouldn't have like an extra semester but she got a job at the clarion ledger in jackson and so i knew i wanted to get there so the whole point was just trying to get to jackson specifically the clarion ledger which is that was at the time a pretty prestigious award-winning newspaper in jackson it had
A circulation of 100,000.
It was the biggest newspaper by far in the state.
It had a great sports section and great sports editor.
And that's sort of where I wanted to get.
I had done some part-time work for them.
They didn't have a job.
So the only job for me in Jackson was a temporary news person was the title.
And it was supposed to be six months.
It ended up being about eight months or so.
I was filling in for a woman on maternity leave.
And it was 90% news writing.
And a lot of it, you can say, was actually like aggregation writing.
because I was putting stories on the wire.
