And Coach Heppner looked me dead in the eye and said, he gives us a better chance to win than you do.
And I think that was a turning point.
And it's a conversation I think about every day of my life still to this day, even though it's been a while.
Because what it showed me was,
in order to have an opportunity to play or in order to have the opportunity to run my business or to have any of our clients, I have to add value to those people's lives.
I didn't add enough value to my teammates lives, at least in that case, somebody else added more.
And I think that's super helpful to learn in your formative years that that's what it takes.
And yes, it was harsh.
Yes, I hated it.
I was super upset.
But that's what was needed for me in that moment.
And now it's one of the luckiest things that has ever happened to me, even though at the time I was not very happy about it.
But yeah, have a plan, work to the plan.
plan for the unexpected and know that your job as a leader, your job as a person is to find a way to add value to other people's lives.
If you do that, I like your chances of good things happening.
If you don't,
I don't.
And that's what I try to do.
