Maybe this is just an evidence point that as oil pushes above a hundred dollars a barrel, uh, it it seems to induce some de escalatory behavior from both sides.

So I guess the the sort of positive news over the weekend, as you mentioned, was that there do seem to be a number of reports that uh diplomatic efforts are

uh restarting, uh and some saying uh that's been sort of following a push initiated by China.

Um I guess on the negative side of the ledger we did have also some confirmation, I think on Saturday, that

uh Hootie missile and drone strikes.

had successfully hit an oil refinery uh facility in Saudi Arabia.

So, you know, that on its own uh possibly represents a bit of a step change uh in the conflict, but everything else was broadly positive, um, you know, suggesting maybe there's uh a bit more downside for oil as as we open up uh in early trade in Asia this morning.

Yeah, that's right.

So I think if you're Australia or New Zealand where your tariff rate's gone up from ten to twelve and a half, maybe not that big a deal because uh, you know, particularly for Australia, beef and gold are two major exports to the US are exempt.

Um, maybe not less of a deal if you're Canada uh or particularly

possibly some other South American countries like Mexico where uh the they have also been caught up in a whole other round of uh you know possible tariffs as well.

But I think uh, you know, while markets haven't reacted too much, I think, you know, if you're if you're

Directly impacted by this as a medium or small business, wherever that might be.

You know, this is just yet another iteration of I guess regulatory burden where you've either got to adjust prices or possibly supply chain behavior.

But we'll probably see a bit more of this as you know, we know uh a whole raft of tariffs expired uh at the

The Trump administration is obviously pivoting to alternative legal authorities to impose tariffs and and so it probably does mean at least for the next little while that uh tariffs are gonna be back in the headlines.
