A lot of the people who spoke to me for the book, they actually spoke for that reason.
They wanted to actually make these connections and reach out and show people, you know, we've experienced this thing and this is how we dealt with it.
And first of all, maybe that's helpful for other people if they end up experiencing something similar or also just to raise awareness, have understanding of these specific things.
Yeah, so I went to Ukraine December 2023.
Obviously, the war now is still continuing, which I think at that time for many people, they could not accept that it would be going on for this long.
Even having gone on until December 2023, it felt too long.
And I went to Ukraine.
And basically, my idea was, because I'm sure people definitely know the background, but a lot of men of a certain age were forbidden from leaving the country.
Many have been first they volunteered very early because they taught, you know, many that long, of course, like, so, yeah, people thought it wouldn't be so long.
And then later, others were conscripted and or volunteered later.
And I decided to go and meet the partners of people who were on the front lines just to ask them, you know, what impact has this war had on your personal life, which I know sounds very nosy, but yeah.
Well, that's what you do, isn't it?
Irina, you know, they're married and she basically was like, I'll just spend loads of time with you and explain everything to you.
And yeah, she's this like really kind of, I don't know, bubbly woman who's like very, you know, she runs a publishing company as well.
She just gave me a tour of Kiev and we met up like quite a few times and she was very straight.
Like, so she was like, she described meeting Irina.
Sergey, she was like, you know, he was so handsome.
He had a mustache like Salvador Dali.
And she described them falling in love.
And then we talked and talked and talked.
