And they're deliberately living outside the system.
And I know we've had cases in Dublin where there have been homeless deaths on the street.
You know, the families will come out and tell you about these really long traumatic histories, 20 years of people being offered accommodation, attempts to rescue them by their family, and they just fail every time, which is desperately tragic.
But unless you completely transform your addiction services and psychiatric services, I don't see how that's a problem that can be solved.
In fact, in my writing, sorry, I'm digressing a bit here now.
I've been arguing for several years.
that what Western societies really need to do is reopen the concept of asylums.
Asylums were originally not for refugees.
Asylum was the Victorian effort to take the mentally ill out of jail and give them somewhere safe where they could live.
Obviously, that went pear-shaped in its own way, but the mentally ill are back in jail.
And so I thought that was giving a hostage to fortune and a stick they'll be able to beat him over the head with.
But generally, I think
Um, he's got a couple of years to at least have a good go at it and show that he can be responsible.
I think the more interesting decision he'll have to make is this business on North sea oil.
I know the stocks are declining.
I know there's not a huge amount there, but I think.
if he can get a bit more out of those oil fields, I think that might be a good sign.
But whether or not now he'll be let do it is another thing.
So it's tough, but I'm going to allow myself a little bit of hope and hope that my hope in him won't be betrayed.
Well, obviously the Farage thing and the by-election backfired spectacularly.
