You were nice enough not to read that one.

But Jim Baker, who was the writer there, came around after I did a few games and was actually very nice to me over the years, and I always appreciated it.

It was just a stressful time.

So I remember it's dragging on and on and on.

And my dad was trying to, I think, protect my feelings about if it doesn't have... Hey, just to be considered at your age is a great thing.

You know, if it's not this time, it'll be another time.

I'm like, Dad, the guys who are doing this job... You mentioned Ed Martin.

They've been doing this for 30-something years.

This job may never be open again, right?

So I kind of feel like it's now or never.

So...

I got a call from Mr. Burkery's secretary.

Mr. Burkery would like you to come to his house in Wellesley.

And I thought, oh gosh, he doesn't want to tell me at the station because he thinks I'll cry, which I probably will.

So come to the house so he can let me down easily.

And I remember walking to their, driving to their house, walking into the kitchen.

Mrs. Burkery was standing there and

She was how I found out I got the Red Sox job, because when I walked to the kitchen, she looked at me and smiled and gave me two thumbs up, kind of like, way to go.

So I thought, OK, maybe this conversation is going to be different than I thought.

But great memories and obviously the ultimate thrill.
