As I said, I was very lucky to have the head start with the Syracuse Chiefs.
I don't think there's any way I would have been the TV voice of the Red Sox when I was 25 if I didn't have however many 400 games of minor league experience.
And then I had been working, as you said, doing Bruins pre and post, Red Sox pre and post, college sports on Nesson.
And, you know, Dan Berkery was a great guy, still a dear friend.
He was the president and general manager of Channel 38 at the time.
It was his decision.
And as you said, it was February 6th.
I don't remember the date, but the I know it took a long time.
I mean, that's not that far away from spring training and the opening day.
And the longer it dragged on, the more and more I thought I'm not going to get this because, you know, I felt I was kind of the obvious in-house candidate.
The biggest name would just be my age.
And then I came to find out later from Dan, my dad was also a negative in this instance because he didn't want to think I got hired because I was Will's kid.
And Dan said to me, I don't even know your dad that well.
And this is the most important thing at our station, the ratings, the revenue generation.
I can't make a mistake on it.
This is the most important product we have.
So I don't care who your father is.
I'm not going to give you this job, you know, if I don't think you're the right guy for the job.
But, you know, there's always, and I've already mentioned times I'm sure being my dad's son helped, but there are also a few times when I think it hurt.
And this might have been one of them, especially when the headline in the Boston Herald was, where there's a will, there's a way.
