And the great thing about our country is, yeah, we have robust and sometimes rambunctious arguments about bread and war.

And the size of government and all these things that seem like such quaint little arguments now.

We used to fight over them so vociferously.

They all feel very quaint.

when we're trying to save the democracy itself.

I fight so hard for this, and it's the first two chapters in my book.

One is on voting rights, second on dark money, because these are not just issues alongside other issues.

Pick your issue, whatever it is.

You could say, well, climate change is an existential threat to our very survival, and it is.

But the democracy is the house we live in.

It's the context in which we get to fight.

Mm-hmm.

for all of these things.

And so for me, it is fundamental.

It is sacred.

I believe that a vote is a kind of prayer for the world we desire for ourselves and for our children.

And so, yeah, I look back at that time and I'm proud of what we did.

I entered Congress at a time when

I mean, wow, the size and scope of legislation we pass, one seldom sees.

You could have seen that in a 40-year career.
