It seems insane to me that you would have, as a deliberate design feature, a policy to cut supply.

We should be doing everything we can to build more homes.

Having lower taxes actually promotes more opportunities for all Australians.

And that actually then funds the services people need to rely on, whether it's Medicare or social services.

I think we're living through the lowest level of ambition in Australia in my lifetime by a mile.

Well, the government has to win an election, which is getting a majority of seats in the House of Representatives.

And if they do that, they can make a budget and then they can pass laws if the Senate agrees.

Now, in this Senate, we have Labor and the Greens with an effective majority.

So they can affect almost any crazy idea that they have.

We are the opposition and our job is to try and promote a good alternative and also try and stop bad ideas.

So we're elected to six-year terms in our system in Australia, and so that gives us an opportunity to hold the government to account, do some ideally long-form policy work.

But look, in the main, I think Australians have been rightly pretty disappointed with their elected officials because I don't think we've done a lot of long-term planning.

I think the two-party system's under huge pressure in Australia, I think with good reason.

I think the chickens are coming home to roost.

And I think we need to do a much better job in actually trying to solve the problems that we have and to be honest about them.

I mean, I think people are over the spin and over the rubbish.

Well, as you say, in terms of the hours worked and the output of the machines, we're going backwards.

And in some cases, like in the building sector, massively backwards because we've had corrupt bodies like the CFMEU run the show.

But effectively, we have had way too much regulation.

way too much complexity, way too many taxes, and this is way down our overall competitive position.
