Their own money is an entirely reasonable and a good starting point.

But there's more we need to do on tax to differentiate.

And this has been a big sin of the last decade that we've been way too close to Labor when it comes to economic policy.

And on things like superannuation, I don't think we should have gone to 12% super.

I think that was madness.

We should have had a debate about that.

In general, there's been way too much me too-ism in Australian politics and we need to give people an economic choice.

And right now, in the early stages of the budget aftermath, they're already giving people a big choice when it comes to capital gains tax and also on income tax.

Well, it's fundamentally illiberal to take away people's money and give it to a fund manager they'll never meet, for them to manage for 40 years and to charge high fees on, and then for that manager to give distributions and money payments to the Labor Party for their political purposes.

And so I favour a much more liberal approach where people could choose their own destiny.

I also think that at 12% of people's salaries and incomes, particularly at the entry level when you're in your 20s and you might have a HECS debt, it's a huge amount of money, right?

And the government's policy now is that these funds should be landlords.

So the big super funds should go around building houses, buying houses, so they can rent them out to Australians for a lifetime.

Mm-hmm.

And I just think that's wrong.

I want my Australian dream is for individuals to own a house because it transcends their economic interests.

It's a place for a family.

It's a place for good physical and mental health.

It's really important.

It's part of our social fabric, and I really believe that if every Australian owns a little piece of earth, then we're a stronger democracy as well.
