And we want to be a proud migrant nation going forward.

That's my strong view.

But we've got to house these people.

And so giving up on supply, I think, is very dangerous thinking.

I think it is a bit akin to communism because effectively all they're doing is adding on a new tax on everything to fix housing, they say, which doesn't make any sense to me.

And you can see the Prime Minister and the Treasurer have struggled to defend the budget on the basis that why are they putting a tax on everything?

And why are they deliberately suppressing supply?

So I think we're going in the wrong direction there.

I mean, there's also the point that the government is very close to the big super funds.

They probably like the idea of them becoming big landlords.

And so they're quite happy to chase individuals out of the property sector and to bring in their mates.

Effectively, they're trying to force a recalibration of the existing market, they say.

Let's see how effective it's going to be.

My sense is that it won't be effective.

I think you will see higher rents.

You'll see fewer completions.

And that's what we saw in the 80s when...

a similar policy like this was tried.

So like ultimately they now have a three-prong approach, which I think is not good for the country.
