So what does that mean for people that are listening?
So we can hear this faint kind of buzzing.
It means that all the members of the House of Representatives have to go into the chamber and vote for or against a bill or on a motion.
Could be being passed through the House.
But of course, in order for it to become law.
It has to come to you.
It needs to come to us in the Senate.
And historically, we've been very good at blocking stuff or deferring stuff.
the the as a result of tax changes yeah um the tax changes over the next decade will be around will result in around 35 000 fewer dwellings and i have to say i'm surprised that the government decided that on page 158 of the budget papers they would so clearly say that as a result of our new taxes on housing there will now be 35 000 fewer houses
because it actually restores my faith that the government have some sense of supply and demand.
It seems insane to me that you would have, as a deliberate design feature, a policy to cut supply.
So under the last government, we used to get 200,000 houses a year on average.
Now we're down to 170,000 houses a year on average under this government.
Now they want to build a fewer 35,000 houses over a longer period of time.
I mean, we need to be getting up to 250,000.
So we should be doing everything we can to build more homes.
We have a bigger population and that's great, right?
I mean, we've always been a proud migrant nation.
Mm-hmm.
