Do they know how to do it?
And do they know why you're doing it?
Okay.
Knowing what you're doing is just one piece of the puzzle.
Like there are plenty of times we could tell a family to do this specific strategy.
They have to know why.
They have to really understand the significance, the importance.
Some families want to know the research.
They want to know how it's worked for other families in the past or other kids you've worked with.
Some families are that mindset of someone who just wants more information.
They but they need to know the why because the why is going to get them bought into the what, whatever it is that you were doing or you were trying to get them to do.
And then do they know how to do it themselves?
And this isn't just do they know how to implement the strategy, but do they actually know how to take that strategy and bring it into their daily life and the things that they are already doing?
And those are all things that can be accomplished through really great parent training, parent coaching, consults, getting on the phone phone with families, shooting them a quick video explaining what you want them to do, giving them homework, telling them exactly what to do, talking to them so that you can help them build it into their routines.
training them in real time, coaching them, like actually having them come into your session and coaching them through it so they can try.
Because as you know, if you were sitting here as e as either a parent or a therapist, it is one thing for someone to say, do this thing.
It is another thing to do it.
It feels like a completely different mountain to climb when you are actually the one doing
It when you're the person who is the
engaged in the activity with the child.
