I want it to become such a piece of that social and physical infrastructure of New Zealand that we can't get away from it.
It becomes that norm of how we do things here, which is what it is in Australia, right?
You try and tinker with that.
People are upset.
That's my money that you're trying to take.
So compulsion would be, I think, a way into it.
I'm very conscious that that would have quite a big impact on particularly low income owners who are currently not contributing.
And so compulsion in my mind should be compulsion of the employer contribution only.
And it's that that should increase gradually over time to 12%.
So then we give people the transition from here to them.
But also, we should make hardship withdrawals a little bit easier.
Currently, it's literally your last resort.
And I don't think you should have to suffer all the other indignities before you can access your own money.
Like I said before, roughly about 60% of people will probably live a good life on New Zealand Super.
For them, we should allow them to draw some of those funds for when they need it during their working life.
I don't want them to suffer during working life so that they can have a better retirement.
Totally.
And I think, you know, poverty is a real thing in New Zealand and there is a lot of pressure on a lot of New Zealanders.
And we have seen this expansion of poverty.
I was looking at the statistics recently.
