You know, in the 80s, 90s, early 2000s, 80% of Kiwis would buy fruit and veg every week.

Currently, 40% don't.

So, you know, there's a lot of people who are giving up on or making big sacrifices on things that I'd say are just basic things that I'd expect Kiwis to be able to afford.

I think so.

I think the last 18 years, we have seen quite a lot of changes, quite a lot of tinkering, and generally for the worse.

But I think this election is going to be a watershed election where most of the political parties want to make KiwiSaver stronger and better.

Because I think there has been a come-to-Jesus moment when our politicians have finally realized that can-kicking is getting harder and harder.

Because every year we are making big sacrifices, their political choices are limited, and they're not happy about it.

So KiwiSaver, I think, is maturing in the political space.

I think it's already well accepted by New Zealanders.

So...

I don't know about you, but I feel more optimistic that despite the evidence of the last 18 years, I feel like the next 18 years, we're probably going to see more positive changes to KiwiSaver than we have seen so far.

The answer is absolutely yes.

The literature is actually very, very strong on the lifetime impact of having financial resources.

So there are two ways that really impacts children.

So the first is actually uplifting the financial interest and capability of the families.

So when they see that their kids have access to money, that they have savings and it's growing over time, they can have a really good role modeling effect for the wider family.

And that's something I think we'd love to see for New Zealanders.

The second thing is they can now start adulthood with a little pot of money.

So you don't start in the big world with nothing.
