So I imagine your relationship with him, especially for those moments where you're able to be like, hey, remember what we talked about in the coach's room?
Remember when we talked about how the defense looks in particular?
Was that a part of why you think the Steelers really wanted to keep you on because of your working relationship with Ben?
I want to talk about Mike Tomlin Mike Tomlin came in as head coach when you were five years into your tenure in Pittsburgh in 2007 and obviously stayed on 19 seasons he's only just left the building now I want to try and understand what it is about Tomlin that really got the best out of the squad he had I think a lot of people would argue that
the players he has to work with in Pittsburgh weren't necessarily the best, but he always seemed to get the most out of whatever he was given.
But you look at his record, he's never had a losing season in 19 years as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
When he first came in and really laid down the law, and obviously much of he came in as a defensive coordinator from Tampa Bay, he's very much a cultured guy.
What is it that he does that gets the best out of whatever he's given?
In his second season, then he got us fired to Super Bowl XLIII when, of course, the Pittsburgh Steelers won.
Your second ring, of course, that you have.
What I found interesting is that I was talking to an ex-teammate of yours, Bryant McFadden, and he was saying that a lot of the defensive guys stayed up all night before that game playing cards, and then they turned up on match day on Super Bowl Sunday.
Probably not as fresh as you'd expect, but hey, they still went out and beat the Arizona Cardinals as it was.
Did you guys in the offense know about that?
Know what the defensive guys were doing in the lead-up to that game?
You look at other head coaches around the league, you talk about how some of them are either harsher on one side of the ball or that they're harsh on some players because they want to make an example out of the big stars.
What was Tomlin like in those film rooms?
Was he harsh on the defense, softer on offense?
Did he pick out a couple of guys that he always uses as sort of, hey, I'm going to beat you down so everybody knows I don't treat everybody equally?
What was he like when he was talking to a big group like that?
Of course, Mike Tomlin is no longer the head coach of the Steelers.
