Well, the sad fact of the matter is there comes a time in New Zealand where we do rely either on coal or natural gas because we don't have enough water in the lakes or we don't have enough battery storage.
And I've grown quite tired of this sort of juvenile...
tarping coming from the left of politics that we can have all these green accoutrements without a backup.
The backup is gas.
The backup is coal.
That's a fact that's not going to change for the foreseeable future.
Well, I hope to see those facts reveal themselves on your power bill.
And the factories and the industrial complexes, not the least of which is the whakatane mill, those areas, because they create products and services that are of strategic importance to New Zealand.
Unless you want a model where you're going to import everything from overseas, worsening our current account deficit, and more importantly, turning us to some
some form of dairy shed equivalent of Hawaii.

Well, the real pressure is can we entice anyone to come back into the sector given that they read the news, they watch the media and in the event there's a change of government?
There's going to be a cancellation of the whole sector.
So there needs to be incentives and encouragement for them to come back in.
I'm happy that Todd are spending some of their own money and I'm happy that our cabinet's mandated me to use the taxpayer purse to ensure we don't run out of gas.
Well, what is authentic is the fact that the Supreme Court, um, copying the Supreme Court of the UK last November, December made a decision and made it incredibly difficult in New Zealand for us to use our indigenous gas resource resources unless we go through an ideological jungle gym.
Our officials have guided us through that and obviously we're not gonna do anything reckless.
We'll take the advice of the officials.
There's a chap called Andy Knight, he's the most knowledgeable guy in New Zealand on the oil and gas.
