Um uh which announced uh an a new drug basically developed by a group for the T V Alliance that seemed very active against um drug resistant tuberculosis, which is great news because at the moment to treat just drug resistant tuberculosis you need to go for eighteen months or two years, let alone X D R T B where you know is really tough to treat with injections as well as tablets.

And also some extraordinary statistics about of all the T B cases thirteen percent are HIV positive.
We now have excellent drugs for treating HIV and how those drugs work.
is by targeting virus that's dividing or replicating.
But HIV is quite clever in that in addition to actually infecting and killing a cell, it can also hide within a cell.
And it does that because it's able
to integrate or enter into the person's DNA.
So there's not many viruses that can do that.
Exactly.
So that most viruses get into a cell and even can take over the cell's processes, but very few actually get into the DNA of the cell.
Now once it's in the DNA of the cell
the cell can no longer spit it out basically and it will stay there for the life of the cell.
So the cell will remain alive but carry HIV.
And that's really the reason why you can't cure HIV because the minute you stop the drugs, those cells that carry the pieces of HIV genetics in its own DNA
can then in effect refuel the fire of HIV replication.
