Typically speaking, they're people who have come from lifestyles where they've been hurt, they've been damaged, their needs haven't been met.
And there's also going to be parts of them that are redeeming and that where they can be kind, they can be considerate.
And there's this nuance to it where we want to look at everything through such a black and white perspective where it's either you're good or you're bad.
You're an abuser or you're not an abuser.
But that makes it very cookie cutter and it makes it so that it's hard for people to redeem themselves when they do behave abusively because...
You can have abusive qualities and you can do things that are wrong while still having a good heart and wanting to do what's best, but then you're acting within the biases and the
constructs of the environments you've grown up in and you might be hurting people or horses without realizing it and without that being your intent and there's this belief system that like abuse has to be intentional that you have to be going about it deliberately maliciously and it's so dangerous because it makes it so that people who are in abusive relationships are less likely to identify it because they'll see this person in front of them and they'll go they're not trying to hurt me they're not maliciously actually going out of their way to try to hurt me but it's like but they are hurting you
Exactly.
It doesn't have to be intentional.
It doesn't have to be malicious.
Abusers aren't these evil villain-esque people.
They are just people.
And I think that that's a conversation.
It's so hard to dive into, but it needs to happen because there's this idea that if you love your horse and you care about them, that you cannot be abusive.
And that's not true.
And the same thing applies in relationships.
Yep.
where you can behave abusively, even with the best intentions, especially if you've grown up where you've been emotionally stunted or you've not had your needs met.
You're very likely to be avoidant and potentially abusive in certain ways, like stonewalling your partner and not listening to them and just cutting things off any time you get uncomfortable is abusive.
But a lot of people do that.
