Um, like ev even with my horse who passed away six years ago now, what we found in his postmortem, and it would have been nowhere near as in depth as one that they're where they're taking literally everything apart.

It was disappointing 'cause they found like O C D lesions in some of his joints and like a one of his stifles where I was like, Okay, he never really wanted to um like consistently pick up that canter lead and I wrote it off as like, Oh, he's he raced, he's off the track, it's his right lead, so he's just weaker and he just needs to work on it and like that was validated by a lot of other people in the community.
And then when you find that out in death, it feels really bad where you're like, Okay, wow, I was frustrated about this.
that this horse struggled with and now there's a very clear explanation for it that should have been considered a little bit more.
Well and I I saw that too and it was like it it looks like a like for people who haven't seen this, the the best descriptor I can think of is if you're cutting like a chicken breast and you slide the knife through but not quite all the way, that's what the muscle looks like.
And it was really hard to look at it.
It it made me wonder too, like for the dressage horses and whatnot, where there's been cases where you see upper level dressage horses who have visible spur marks from the outside and then it makes you wonder what does it look like underneath the flesh?
Because I I've seen horses who have um color changes in their coat and where where you can tell that the skin has been damaged underneath of it.
And
It does make me wonder how if we were to do postmortems on all of these horses, what would they look like in death?
And th this is a little bit morbid, but it's something that I think would be a really huge step forward for the industry is if we took high profile horses who were highly successful in in life
and had mandatory postmortem dissections because then it would be a way of actually proving whether or not the industry is doing everything it says.
If these horses are consistently coming up with the same issues where there is extensive bony damage from the bit or if they have extensive damage from spurs,
that in itself would lend credence to really reflecting on the ethics pertaining to that.
And it's not something I think anyone would really agree to because it would be very, very damning and a lot of people wouldn't want to deal with the repercussions of what it would actually mean if we did that.
But I think it would be so eye opening and educational.
Yeah, I completely agree.
I don't really wa like I watch um clips of it for like educational purposes and to stay up to date on what's going on.
from a welfare perspective, but it's very hard to support any of that anymore because I think that the people who don't put horse welfare to the sides in order to compete are honestly the outliers.
